Aromatherapy: Product Ingredients & Their Properties

Here is a complete list of the ingredients we use in our products, with notes about the properties of each. We hope you enjoy learning about aromatherapy and its many valuable uses.

Aloe Vera: Soothing and healing. Helps absorption of other ingredients. Regenerates skin on a cellular level. Hydrates skin, slight antiseptic.

Aloe Vera oil: Astringent, healing to tissue. High in amino acids, enzymes, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Ambrette Seed essential oil: Stimulant, aphrodisiac, vegetable musk from hibiscus seeds.

Arrowroot Powder: Softens skin, absorbs moisture.

Apricot Kernel oil: Rich in vitamins and minerals.

Avocado oil: Oil rich in vitamin A & E. Soothing and nourishing, penetrates easily.

Baking Soda: Absorbs moisture, neutralizes body odor.

Beeswax: Unbleached, used as a natural emulsifier.

Borax: A mild natural alkali used to texturize, soften water & preserve.

Bromelain (Pineapple enzymes): Digests and lifts dead skin cells and softens debris in pores.

Burdock root: Regulates oil and sweat glands, astringent.

Calendula: Anti-inflammatory action, soothing and healing, helps formation of new tissue, mildly stimulating effect on blood flow, accelerating ability to remove wastes in skin tissue.

Carrot essential oil: Improves skin tone and elasticity, moistens dry skin.

Cedarwood essential oil: Antiseptic, relieves itching, soothes skin, calming to nerves, stimulates sex drive. Mild astringent which helps balance oil production

Chamomile: Cleans and strengthens tissue. Helps reduce puffiness. Calming, aids in irritated and sensitive skin.

Chamomile essential oil: Anti-inflammatory, skin soothing, healing.

Coconut oil: Rich moisturizing and cleansing natural oil.

Comfrey leaves and root: Contain allantoin, a cell proliferant that promotes rapid regeneration of damaged cells. Reduces swelling and soothes minor bruises, sprains, sores. Regenerates skin cells and temporarily eliminates wrinkles by plumping skin cells.

Corn starch: Skin soothing, absorbs moisture.

Fig leaves: Effective astringent since early Egyptian times.

Frankincense: Antiseptic, astringent and tonic to the skin. French green clay: Remineralizes, detoxifies, strengthens issues.

Fucus: Sea plant. Oxygenates tissues, stimulates circulation, detoxifies and absorbs impurities, relaxes muscles, nourishes and smooths skin.

Galbanum: A resin with great benefits for revitalizing skin. Gardenia infusion: Stimulating and invigorating to skin and senses. Fresh gardenias are infused in Kukui Nut oil.

Goldenseal root: Potent astringent and antiseptic.

Grapefruit seed extract: Natural cosmetic preservative, bacterial and fungal inhibitor. Green coffee extract: Used as a natural sunscreen agent.

Guar gum: Ground nutritive seed tissue which forms a gel in solution.

Gum acacia: Exudate from acacia trees used as emulsifier.

Gum benzoin: Bactericide, antiseptic, preservative.

Jasmine essential oil: Benefits all skin types, helps to moisturize weather exposed skin.

Kukui nut oil: A readily absorbed nut oil high in essential fatty acids vital to the metabolism of healthy skin.

Labdanum: Soothing to dry, irritated, inflamed skin.

Laminaria: Sea plant. Oxygenates tissues, stimulates circulation, detoxifies and absorbs impurities, relaxes muscles, nourishes and smooths skin.

Lavender essential oil: Regenerates skin cells, skin softener, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, calming, very rejuvenating. Cleansing, soothing, skin cell regenerator. Stimulates circulation to the skin, balances oil production. Regulates oil secretions of the scalp, helps repair damaged or over-processed hair. Helps heal bruises, cuts, insect bites, inflammation, burns, chaffed skin, blemishes.

Lecithin: Soybean product for skin suppleness and elasticity. Linked with natural moisture balance of skin. Rich in liposomes which hydrate the tissues, stimulate elastin and collagen production.

Lemon essential oil: Antiseptic, astringent, revitalizing and balancing to skin.

Lemongrass essential oil: Revitalizing, improves circulation, relieves sore muscles.

Mimosa: Relaxing, helps to overcome stress and nervous tension. Myrrh: Powerful antiseptic, soothing to tissue.

Myrrh essential oil: Soothes and softens skin, simulates skin cell regeneration, improves circulation, preservative. Antiseptic, reduces inflammation, helps heal blemishes and wounds.

Myrrh powder: Mild antiseptic, skin soothing and softening.

Neroli essential oil: Skin cell regenerating. Mild antiseptic, regulates oiliness and soothes irritated, dry skin. Subdues tension and stress. Helps dry skin and broken veins, skin softening. Oak moss essential oil: Skin softener, soothing.

Oat powder: Cleanse, soften, nourish skin.

Oats: Cleanses, softens, nourishes, contains B vitamins, calcium and minerals for strengthening tissues.

Olive oil: Rich emollient. Nourishes and softens skin. Soothes and protects scalp. Used for healthy hair since early Egyptian and Grecian times.

Orange essential oil: Restores skin balance, stimulates circulation to the skin surface, softens rough, dry, wrinkled skin. Mild astringent and antiseptic. Calms the nerves and brightens the mood.

Palm oil: Softening, conditioning and cleansing natural oil.

Papain (papaya enzymes): Digests and lifts dead skin cells and softens debris in pores.

Rose essential oil: Calming and toning to skin, reduces redness and itching due to sensitive skin.

Rose geranium essential oil: Cleansing, mild skin tonic that balances the skin. Soothes dry, sensitive skin. Calms the nerves, uplifts the mind.

Rosemary essential oil: Relieves congestion in nerves and muscles, improves circulation, soothes skin. Stimulating and cleansing, nourishes scalp, regulates oil secretions, improves many scalp problems such as seborrhea and dandruff, keeps hair shiny and healthy. Said to promote hair growth.

Safflower oil: Rich in skin nutrients.

Sage essential oil: Astringent, antiseptic.

Sandalwood essential oil: Moisturizing, Emollient, relieves itching and inflammation. Antiseptic, mild astringent, calming, aphrodisiac.

Sandalwood powder: Helps dry skin conditions. Deodorizing, mild antiseptic.

Sesame oil: Rich in nutrients and emollients, highly lubricating, contains sesamol, a natural sunscreen.

Shea butter: Obtained from the fruit of the karite tree, known for it's moisturizing and sun protection properties.

Sodium hydroxide: An alkali salt used in soap manufacture. Nonirritating, being over 99% reacted with saponification of oils. Helps create natural glycerines in oils.

Spirulina algae: Rich in minerals and vitamins, oxygenates and hydrates tissues.

St. John's Wort: Strengthens skin tissue, helps decrease swelling, bruises, broken capillaries.

Sweet almond oil: High in fatty acids, light and easily absorbable, rich in nutrients.

Thyme essential oil: Antiseptic, increases circulation to the skin, preservative.

Tree moss absolute: Emollient, soothing, skin softening.

Tuberose essential oil: Aphrodisiac, soothing to the mind.

Vanilla absolute: Aphrodisiac, soothing to the mind.

Vegetable glycerin: A by-product of vegetable oil soap manufacture, used as a humectant and emollient. Humectant which attracts moisture from the air for light moisturizing.

Vetiver essential oil: Calms nerves, toning to reproductive organs, stimulates circulation and sexual feelings, aphrodisiac.

Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol): An antioxidant that aids in the repair of weak and damaged tissues. Arrests scar tissue, speeds healing process.

Wheat germ oil: Rich in vitamins A, D & E.

Witch Hazel: Mild, soothing antiseptic, firms and tightens tissue.

Ylang Ylang essential oil: Treats dry, devitalized and mature skin, mildly antiseptic. Antiseptic, calming to skin and senses. Balances oily, broken out skin. Deeply relaxing and creates aroused and euphoric moods. Soothing, calming, antiseptic, good for all skin types.
